We strive to work together for a sustainable future and make the right decisions that benefit both people and the environment. For over 100 years, we have developed products with high quality and long lifespan, a combination of Swedish craftsmanship tradition and modern technology, and we will continue to do so. We also offer spare parts that ensure the products last for generations and bring joy for a long time. We at Hörby Bruk are proud of our products – they are solid, durable, and made with care.

Our Goals

All the steel in our Swedish-manufactured wheelbarrows should be fossil-free by 2030.
All energy should be fossil-free by 2026.
Energy efficiency improvement of at least 20% by 2030.
The consumption of district heating should be reduced by at least 30% by 2030.
The amount of purchased plastic packaging material should be reduced by 50% by 2030.
Plastic packaging material should consist of at least 30% recycled material by 2025.

Activities

In 2019, we carried out a comprehensive upgrade of our powder coating facility. This investment resulted in an impressive 50% reduction in lost powder paint. We went from using approximately 8 tons of powder paint to using 4 tons.
The company''s fleet of vehicles has been replaced with hybrid cars in recent years and will, within a couple of years, consist solely of electric cars. Consequently, 14 charging stations have been installed around the property, not only for company vehicles but also for the private cars of employees.
Through close collaboration with our neighbors at Beijer Building Materials, we have established an efficient method for reusing their surplus wood scraps. Instead of sending these materials directly for recycling, they now get a second chance as valuable spacers on our pallets with warehouse carts. This smart reuse reduces waste and benefits both our operations.
We optimize our resource usage by reusing scrap materials. For example, surplus metal from the manufacturing of wheelbarrows is transformed into practical garden edging. Instead of sending 150 metal sheets for recycling, we can create approximately 1350 garden edgings.
The entire facility has been powered by district heating since 2014. The combustion with biofuels provides numerous benefits, particularly in terms of circular thinking, as it is CO2 neutral. The released carbon dioxide doesn''t contribute extra emissions; instead, it is absorbed by trees that are now growing larger. Ash, as a residual product, is managed and returned to the forest.
In all the activities above, we have considered Agenda 2030, goal 12 Sustainable Consumption.

We constantly strive to streamline our energy usage. Our entire facility is currently heated by district heating. We also proactively mitigate the risk of pollution and continuously work on environmental improvements. We are consistently increasing the commitment and knowledge of both employees and management to ensure a high level of environmental work. As part of this effort, all employees are required to undergo environmental training.

From idea and craftsmanship to finished product
Our operations result in some environmental impact, including natural resource consumption, waste, chemical management, and transportation. We take responsibility for how our products affect the environment, actively working to reduce the negative impact and improve the environmental performance of our processes.
