What is bamboo?
The bamboo plant is a type of grass that grows entirely organically, without artificial irrigation, pesticides, or fertilizers. The bamboo used for our handles is cultivated on FSC-certified hillside plantations where nothing else can be grown, and both cultivation and production are FSC-certified. After harvesting, up to 90% of the bamboo plant can be utilized.
How is bamboo processed?
Once bamboo is harvested, the stem is peeled and split into thin strips. These strips are dried and heat-treated in an oven to protect them against microbial decay.
After drying, the strips are dipped in an adhesive bath, and the adhesive''''s high penetration ability into the strips is crucial for the final product''''s properties. The strips are then pressed together under 2700 tons of pressure, resulting in a material with a density of 1.2 tons/m3 and extreme hardness.
How do I care for my bamboo handles?
You can effectively use cleaning agents such as Grovrent or Trallrent, typically used for cleaning decks and terraces. These agents also clean the wood surface from grease, dirt, and soot. Afterward, oil your handles once a year with wood oil to maintain their durability.
